VIRTUAL GALLERIES

This area features H.C. Porter's fine art photography, mixed media originals, limited edition serigraphs and open and limited edition reproductions. To simplify browsing, the pieces in the mixed media category have been grouped into several virtual galleries named after streets in the artist's former Jackson, MS studio neighborhood. It is from these streets that many of her images originate.

BACKYARDS & BEYOND SERIES
(2006 - Present)
“ Hurricane Katrina changed forever the coastline of my home state and the lives of its people. I saw shoulders with burdens I wanted to carry. With my work I try to free hands from the basket - do justice with color and image - show the riches and the joy. ” - HC Porter

KEENER GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals
(2005)
“ The Southern tradition ... A sense of place, a respect for eccentricity, a never-ending complexity of race relations, the assurance that comes with knowing you will be treated with the greatest warmth and courtesy no matter what door you knock on - all that combined creates the filter through which I see, and what I see becomes my work.” - HC Porter

CHURCH GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals

“ The work I do won't change the lives represented in my paintings but it does change the viewers who live with my work. That's what's important to me." ” - HC Porter

ADELLE GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals

“ This image, named "9-12" in remembrance of the 9/11/2001 tragedy, gives voice to an entire country - expressing its sorrow and making clear its hope ” - HC Porter

SIDWAY GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals
(2000)
“ As long as I can remember I wanted to be an artist. But what kind of artist I didn't know. Mondrian saw line and color, Picasso saw cubes and I saw Millsaps Avenue. ” - HC Porter

LAMAR GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals
(1999)
“ Reflective of Warhol and Rauschenberg but fully expressive of myself - my emotionality, enthusiasm and of course, my Southern experience. ” - HC Porter

MINERVA GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals
(1998)
“ I conceive of painting as an intuitive activity which demands automatic responses. As a painter I do not allow myself to be merely a spectator recorder, but rather a participant involved in the act of painting. ” - HC Porter

LIVINGSTON GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals
(1997)
“ My work is a question of identifying with my characters. You must respond to their realness. To what they bring to you and what you can bring to them. ” - HC Porter

FAIRBANKS GALLERY - Mixed Media Originals
(1996)
“ The spartan settings, hard contrasts and wonderful color combinations give your work a unique character that we would now recognize anywhere as H.C. Porter Orlando, FL ”

“ "There are three elements in my work: Painting, printmaking, photography, and what emerges is the relationship ” - HC Porter
